KTM 790 Adventure, A Dealers (biased) Perspective.

Introducing the KTM 790 Adventure S & R, a bike I have been waiting for since KTM discontinued their legendary single, the 640 Adventure. A special thanks to KTM South Africa for the privilege of experiencing these bikes in Morocco, shortly after their International Launch. An honor indeed. A lot of people have asked my opinion, so here it is. FYI (or rather for what it’s worth) I have gone out of my way not to read or watch any reviews on the KTM 790 Adventure, I wanted no preconceived ideas, I wanted to form my own opinion. Although, I have heard expressions of disappointment at the weight of the bike as well…

    EURoadTrip2018 – Mattighofen

212km of unrelenting rain today. Soaked to the core, no coffee breaks, just ride! After some slipping and sliding, switched drive to “Rain Mode” for improved traction. 790 flawless through the entire 5609km. Average consumption of 5.4l/100km. Specifically designed maxxis tyres offering superb traction and longevity throughout the journey. Going to miss my Nurburgring Touring Edition. Think I shall collect her in JHB and Roadtrip home via ET… (Mpumalanga) anyone keen to join? Great catchup with the boss before returning to Munich for our last night in Europe. Thanks Fran for your assistance in making this dream come true. And lunch! And that dear friends concludes Euroadtrip2018!

2018 KTM Dealer Conference and 790 Duke Launch

Action packed day at Kyalami at the 2018 KTM Dealer Conference & long awaited KTM 790 Duke Launch.  Turns out JHB can be fun! A slow start to the day after a horrible night sleep in what felt like a silent disco, passing cars lights flashing through an open curtain in our hotel room! Information overload with new product and innovation introductions, much to take in! 2017 Results, PowerWear, KTM Finance, New Diagnostics, 2019 Competition Models, Marketing Initiatives, Group Photo, Training Initiatives, food, plenty of food and eventually the introduction of the 790 Duke….in between phone calls, sms and emails…  After a brief introduction and riders briefing we were allowed onto the already…

KTM 390 Duke, A Bike for all occassions

As a dealer, a KTM dealer, I struggled to understand the 390 Duke positioning. Legally too much for under 18 and too little (read slow) for over 18. #preconceptions In my experience, naked bikes are not very practical in this country. Exposing the rider to unpleasantries on our long straight roads, unlike European congested towns or twisty country roads keeping speeds to an acceptable comfort level. I loved my first ride, on the original 390 Duke, chasing its bigger brother and Original Beast, 1290 Superduke R around the Cape Peninsula following the Argus Route. No contest on the fast flowing stuff, but a great dual in the tight twisties using little to no…

    MV Agusta Factory Tour

The GPS warned me that the Moto Guzzi Museum only opens at 15:00, so I rerouted to MV Agusta assuming the Museum would be at the same location. Well its not. And its closed until Saturday. A blessing in disguise!!! Upon arrival at MV, I presented myself to security and whispered the password “factory tour”, not expecting much as I had not made a booking. “Uno momento” (with finger in the air) came the response as security made a quick call… and ten minutes later i had my own personal factory tour guide. Unfortunately photos are “not permitted” in the pre-production, parts bin (“supermarket”) & single line production assembly plant, but are allowed…

    Ducati Museum Gallery

Back in the day, when we owned Ducati Cape Town, we were privileged enough to visit Italy and Ducati regularly. Our since visit back since 2006, like Ferrari, not much has changed other than new models. Still have a massive respect and soft spot for Ducati as a Brand on and off track. Lovely to be back in their hood!
